Former governor insists party is “too strong” to abandon governorship race, declares Salaam’s candidacy unstoppable
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has firmly rejected rumours that it has withdrawn from the Osun State governorship election or entered into any alliance with another political party, with National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola declaring: “We are contesting this election to win.”
Speaking Saturday at a solidarity rally celebrating the 61st birthday of the party’s governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Dr. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, Aregbesola dismissed the reports as “false, unfounded and misleading.”
“The ADC is too strong and too well-positioned to negotiate away its political ambition or contemplate an alliance with any other political party,” the former Osun governor told cheering supporters in Ejigbo. “We have built a formidable structure anchored on progressive principles, ideals and traditions.”
Candidate Hailed as Man of Integrity
Aregbesola lauded Salaam’s character, describing him as a leader of “integrity, humility, exemplary character and compassion for humanity” — qualities he said make the ADC candidate worthy of public trust.
In his response, Salaam reaffirmed his commitment to his manifesto, calling it a “solemn promise” to the people of Osun State. He assured supporters that their confidence would be reciprocated through dedicated and quality service.
“We have absolute faith in God and confidence in the support of the people,” Aregbesola added, expressing optimism that a Salaam-led administration would restore progressive ideals and renew confidence in good governance.
The rally drew a large crowd of ADC supporters, political associates and community leaders who gathered to celebrate Salaam’s milestone birthday and rally behind his governorship ambition.
