APC to Tinubu Appointees: Campaign for 2027 or Resign

Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned political appointees serving under President Bola Tinubu to actively support the party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general election or resign from office.

Speaking during a meeting with members of the Progressive Local Government Chairmen’s Forum in Abuja, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda said political appointments come with both administrative and political responsibilities.

He explained that local government leaders are best placed to identify appointees who may be performing well in government but are failing to build political support in their communities. According to him, holding a political office means contributing to the party’s success at the grassroots.

Yilwatda rejected claims by some officials that they are only technocrats, insisting that anyone who accepts a political appointment must also participate in political activities. He said those unwilling to engage in politics should not accept such appointments.
The APC chairman urged party leaders to report areas where mobilisation is weak, stressing that strong grassroots support will be crucial to the party’s chances in the 2027 election.

He also pledged the party’s support for the Progressive Local Government Chairmen’s Forum as it prepares nationwide mobilisation activities, including an endorsement rally for President Tinubu.

Earlier, the forum’s chairman, Dr. Mustafa Jibrin, said the group has the backing of more than 685 local government chairmen and support from 31 APC governors. He added that the forum aims to help the ruling party secure at least 70 percent of the votes in the 2027 general election.
