Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised a fresh alarm over the alleged use of outdated Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate said concerns arising from the August 1, 2026, mock accreditation exercise have raised questions about the reliability of the technology that will be deployed during the poll.
Atiku’s media office also cited comments attributed to INEC Director of ICT, Dr Lawrence Bayode, which it said further exposed weaknesses in the electoral technology.
With the Osun election attracting national attention, Atiku called for credible and dependable systems to be used to protect the integrity of the vote and maintain public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.
The concerns come just days before voters head to the polls, putting renewed focus on INEC’s preparedness and the transparency of the election.
