Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has fired two of his commissioners, shaking up his cabinet less than a year before his administration winds down.
The axe fell on Mohammed Salis Gamawa (Commerce, Industries, and Investment) and Dr. Mohammed Lawal Rimin Zayam—who had just been shifted from Education to Power, Science, and Technology. Both are out with immediate effect.
The Governor also accepted the resignation of Hon. Faruk Mustapha, former Commissioner for Rural Development and Special Duties.
In a Friday statement by his media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, Mohammed framed the purge as part of “ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and enhance service delivery.”
To fill the gaps, the Governor has forwarded names of replacements along with nominees for other vacant posts to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
Despite the sudden exits, Mohammed thanked the departing officials for their “dedicated service and valuable contributions,” wishing them well in future pursuits.
He reaffirmed his commitment to a “more responsive, effective, and results-oriented government” for the people of Bauchi even as the clock ticks toward the end of his tenure.
