Senate President Godswill Akpabio has sounded a powerful warning to Nigeria’s political class: the City Boy Movement is coming, and it’s poised to deliver President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a resounding re-election victory in 2027.
Describing the emerging youth coalition as an unstoppable “wind blowing across the nation,” Akpabio declared that every political party is already feeling its impact even if they don’t see it coming.
“Never again shall we have a situation in any polling unit where Mr President will not have an agent,” Akpabio boasted during a Wednesday meeting with the movement’s delegation at his office. “In the last election, if your Movement had existed, many of our votes that were not counted would have been counted.”
“They Are Sleeping” Akpabio Fires at Opposition
In a characteristically blunt address, the Senate President took a swipe at rival parties, claiming they are caught napping while the City Boy Movement mobilises nationwide.
“While you are going round the country mobilising, sensitising the populace, educating them, other political parties are sleeping. They are not doing the same,” Akpabio said.
“But when the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be announced, you will hear people saying it is rigged. Ignore all those things and remain focused.”
A New Dawn for Nigerian Youth
Akpabio, who also serves as the movement’s Grand Patron, urged the young mobilisers to see their work as a training ground for their own political futures.
“This is now your turn to shape your future,” he told the delegation. “As you campaign for the President, you are also learning how to mobilise and campaign for yourselves in future.”
Drawing from philosophy, he challenged members to avoid derailment:
“It is not a tragedy when a nonentity whimpers through life and ends up a failure. But it is a tragedy when a potentially achieving young man or woman, out of a flaw in character, becomes a failure.”
Movement Vows to Deepen Civic Engagement
Earlier, City Boy Movement Director-General Francis Shoga explained that the visit aimed to strengthen collaboration with lawmakers.
“We seek your continued guidance and support as we expand our programmes across the country, deepen civic engagement among young Nigerians, and contribute meaningfully to national development,” Shoga said.
What This Means for 2027
With Akpabio’s full-throated endorsement, the City Boy Movement is positioning itself as a formidable grassroots force one that could reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The message is clear: Tinubu’s camp is building early, building deep, and building with youth energy.
The question remains can the opposition match this momentum?
