Former Kano Governor and NNPP leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has strongly rejected claims by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff that Kano voters would reject Peter Obi in 2027, insisting that the state’s electorate is neither xenophobic nor closed to outsiders.
“After a long silence, one would expect sharper judgment but Sheriff seems to have missed the mark,” Kwankwaso said, slamming Sheriff for appointing himself spokesperson for Northern voters. He pointed out that Obi secured nearly 2.8 million votes in the North during the 2023 election a feat “not to be dismissed lightly.”
Kwankwaso argued that with the APC’s economic failures and the addition of a strong Northern running mate to the NDC ticket, the “OK ticket” remains a formidable force. He also took a swipe at Sheriff, advising him to address Borno’s security and humanitarian crises instead of making divisive remarks.
“The good people of Kano trust the Kwankwasiyya movement and will back any credible ticket we present,” he affirmed.
