Former APC Senatorial Aspirant Defects to Accord, Backs Adeleke for Osun Re-election

A former senatorial aspirant of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Peter Ogundeji, has defected to the Accord Party, declaring his support for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaign for a second term.

Ogundeji made the announcement during a political gathering in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, where he led thousands of supporters into the Accord Party. He said his decision was driven by what he described as the governor’s impressive record in office.

According to him, Adeleke’s achievements in governance, particularly in the areas of workers’ welfare and public service, convinced him that the governor deserves another term.
“The tremendous work he is doing in Osun State encouraged me to join this party and support his re-election,” Ogundeji said.

The former APC aspirant also withdrew previous criticisms he had made against Adeleke’s administration, explaining that they were politically motivated during election campaigns rather than a reflection of the governor’s actual performance.

He praised the administration’s treatment of civil servants, retirees and workers, saying many residents could testify to improvements under Adeleke’s leadership.
Ogundeji also criticised the APC’s internal structure, alleging that the party’s candidate selection process favours influential figures over ordinary members, a situation he said affected his own political ambitions.

He urged other APC members to reconsider their political positions and support Adeleke’s re-election, arguing that the governor’s performance has attracted growing support across political divides.
