Germany is set to usher in a new era as legendary football manager Jürgen Klopp is expected to be officially unveiled as the country’s new national team coach on Friday.
The German Football Association (DFB) has scheduled a press conference at its headquarters in Frankfurt, where Klopp is widely anticipated to be introduced following final approval of his appointment.
Klopp, who transformed Liverpool into Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners after successful years at Borussia Dortmund, is expected to sign a contract that will keep him in charge until the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The appointment comes after Germany dismissed Julian Nagelsmann following the team’s disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they were eliminated by Paraguay in a penalty shootout in the Round of 32. The latest setback extended a difficult period for one of football’s most successful nations, which has struggled to match its past dominance since lifting the World Cup trophy in 2014.
Reports indicate that Klopp will leave his role as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer, with the company agreeing to release him in exchange for a charitable donation to the Wings for Life Foundation, which supports research into spinal cord injuries.
Klopp stepped away from Liverpool in 2024 after citing exhaustion, having ended the club’s 30-year wait for an English league title and delivering a sixth European Cup. Before his success in England, he built his reputation at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund, where he won multiple domestic honours.
German football officials now hope Klopp’s experience, leadership and winning mentality can restore the national team to the top of world football ahead of the next World Cup cycle.
