In fulfilment of her promise during the build-up of the 2023 governorship election, the wife of Delta Governor and Founder of You Matter Charity Foundation, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori has hosted Market Women in the state to an end-of-year party.

The memorable event which was held at the banquet hall, Government House Asaba on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, had a delegation of 250 women from the 25 local government areas of the state in attendance.

Addressing the excited group who were being hosted for the first time in the government house by a sitting first lady, Deaconess Oborevwori said the meeting was specifically organized to show appreciation for their support during the March 2023 election of her husband, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as Governor of the state.

While extending the appreciation of the governor to the women, she disclosed that the get-together would be a continuous affair to foster bonds and establish first-hand interactions with them.

She said “I thank God for His mercies, for giving us the privilege to see after the campaigns and elections. Thank God for giving my husband the mandate to preside over this great state; this victory would not have been possible if you had not given us your support.

“The aim of this event is beyond meeting and greeting, it is to let you know that traders in Delta State mean so much to me and I value them. Also, this event is to act on what I said during the campaigns that we will meet very soon, to deeply appreciate and establish a bond with you. To God be the glory, it has come to pass, and we will continue to celebrate as God gives us the opportunity.”

While encouraging the women to remain resolute in their support for Governor Oborevwori’s administration, she expressed confidence that her husband’s MORE agenda “is for the good of all Deltans and I am certain that we will reap the full benefits of democracy if we support this administration”.

Deaconess Oborevwori introduced the women to her pet project, the You Matter Charity Foundation assuring them that the project has a lot in store, especially for those at the grassroots. “The scope of the You Matter Charity Foundation ranges from Health care to Education, Women Empowerment and  Community Impact; we have started the journey, I invite you to join the happy train”, she emphasized.

The governor’s wife urged them to improve their businesses with the knowledge gathered from the training session. She further stressed that they should be an agent of change in their places of assignment, be great ambassadors of Delta State and ultimately, put God first in all they do.

Earlier, in her welcome address, the Director General, You Matter Charity Foundation, Barr. Lawrentta Ogbedo appreciated the women for turning up en masse for the event. She recognized the role played by the group during the governorship election and thanked them for believing in the mandate of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

A sermon by the assistant chaplain, government house chapel Asaba, Pst Solomon Nathanael, enjoined the women to maintain integrity in their trading process and strive to be good wives and mothers in their various homes.

The women also participated in a training workshop tagged “The Role of Market Women in Nation Building” led by veteran resource person, Pst. Tony Umemezia.

In a remark on behalf of the women, the President General, Market Women Association of Nigeria, Delta state chapter, Chief Kate Okoh Onah commended the governor’s wife for keeping to her promise. She reiterated the commitment of the women to the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori even as they look forward to more dividends of his MORE agenda.

Highlights of the event were the presentation of gift items and cash sums to the 250 market women in attendance by Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori and her subsequent investiture as the Mother of market women in Delta State by the group.
