No fewer than 500 women and youths drawn from communities across the nine local government areas of Delta North Senatorial District have benefited from a comprehensive empowerment programme facilitated by the Senator representing Delta North, Senator Ned Nwoko.

The beneficiaries, selected from the 98 wards in the senatorial district, received grants, Point of Sale (POS) machines, business development training and certificates aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, financial inclusion and economic self-reliance.

The two-day capacity-building and empowerment programme brought together participants from across Delta North and focused on equipping them with practical business skills, financial management knowledge and sustainable income-generating opportunities.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Senator Nwoko, represented by his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Engr. Emmanuel Eboh, said the initiative was conceived to provide lasting economic empowerment rather than temporary financial relief.

He noted that participants were exposed to practical entrepreneurial training designed to prepare them for successful business ownership, wealth creation and effective financial management.

According to him, the certificates awarded at the end of the programme would also aid employment of participants, particularly in the production and manufacturing sectors.

“The objective of this programme is to strengthen the economic capacity of our women and youths through sustainable empowerment. Beyond the financial support, beneficiaries have acquired valuable knowledge on business development, opportunities, challenges and the strategies required for success.

“The grants and POS machines will enable them to immediately establish or expand their businesses. In essence, we are teaching people how to create wealth for themselves rather than merely providing short-term assistance,” he said.

Speaking further, the Chief of Staff to Senator Nwoko, Dr. Michael Nwoko, described the initiative as a reflection of the senator’s commitment to human capital development, job creation and people-oriented representation.

He disclosed that more than 1,220 women, youths, farmers and market traders had benefited from similar empowerment interventions facilitated by the senator within the last three years.

Dr. Nwoko added that beyond legislative duties at the National Assembly, Senator Nwoko had executed numerous constituency projects and educational support programmes across Delta North.

According to him, the senator’s developmental strides and responsive representation had continued to attract widespread commendation from constituents throughout the district.

“The Distinguished Senator has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the welfare and development of the people. Across Delta North, there is growing appreciation for his achievements and increasing calls for him to consolidate on these gains,” he stated.

Also speaking, the Director of Administration, Hon. Somadina Anwasia, described the programme as a strategic intervention aimed at improving household incomes, reducing economic hardship and fostering social stability across communities in the senatorial district.

The beneficiaries expressed profound appreciation to Senator Nwoko for the opportunity to acquire entrepreneurial skills and receive business support packages capable of transforming their economic fortunes.

Among those who spoke were Chibuogwu Aniyor (Aniocha North), Ofuani Cletus Nkadilim (Aniocha South), Mordi Kingsley (Oshimili North), Stanley Okonta Dibie (Ika South), Nkwor-Kalo Ezekiel (Ika North East), Nwadialor Salvation (Ndokwa East), Uwadia Joshua Chukwudi (Ndokwa West) and Nzete Gilbert (Ukwuani) local government araa.

They commended the senator for prioritising the welfare of the people and sustaining programmes that directly impact livelihoods across Delta North.

Highlights of the empowerment programme included lectures on entrepreneurship and business management as well as distribution of grants, the presentation of POS machines funded by Senator Nwoko and certificates to participants.

The initiative underscored Senator Nwoko’s commitment to advancing economic empowerment, promoting self-reliance and enhancing the socio-economic well-being of the people of Delta North through sustainable entrepreneurship for sustainable development.
