James Ibori, former Delta state governor, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for his courage in approving the construction of Lagos-Port Harcourt-Calabar coastal superhighway.
The federal executive council (FEC) had approved the construction of the N1.07 trillion superhighway at its meeting on Monday.
“Today, we had the approval of FEC for the construction of 700 kilometer of coastal routes running from Lagos through the nine coastal routes or states up to Cross River, meaning that it goes to Lagos, the Lekki Deep Seaport, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom,” David Umahi, minister of works, had said.
Speaking on the approval in a statement on Monday, Ibori said Tinubu had once again shown courage and commitment towards the development of the Niger Delta region.
In 2001, he said, Tinubu, then the governor of Lagos State, convened a conference of governors from the south-east and south-south in Marina, where the necessity of constructing the superhighway was discussed.
“Mr President, I want to applaud your courage and determination for the development of the Niger Delta region as exemplified by the Federal Executive Council’s approval of the construction of Lagos-Port Harcourt-Calabar Coastal Superhighway,” Ibori said.
“I recall that as governors, we deliberated on the need for the construction of the Coastal road during our meeting of South West and South-South governors which you hosted in Marina as Lagos state governor in 2001.”
He added that the project will improve interconnectivity and boost the economy of the coastal states.
