After days of anguish, the abducted pupils and teachers of Oriire, Oyo State, have been rescued—sparking celebrations across Nigeria.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the breakthrough on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, writing: “Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Oriire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies.”
In a heartfelt video, one of the freed victims Rachael Alamu, principal of Community High School expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the security forces:
“President sir, our father, we are grateful. We understand your commitment to our safety… Every security operative tried so much, and that is why we are alive by now. God bless you.”
The successful operation was coordinated by federal authorities, though no further details on the rescue tactics have been released.
