Police Rescue 4 Kidnap Victims After Heavy Gun Duel in Abuja Hills
The FCT Police Command has pulled off a daring rescue freeing four kidnap victims after a fierce shootout with abductors in the Mpape district of Abuja.
According to police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, the operation was triggered by a distress call late on July 8, when gunmen stormed a residence around 10:40 PM and seized four occupants. Officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and 24 PMF Squadron were immediately deployed.
Upon arrival, police found that the assailants had already shot two people before fleeing with four others, marching them through Jikoko Hills toward Ushafa Forest. The two wounded victims were rushed to hospital one, identified only as Mr. Babangida, was later pronounced dead. The other, shot in the leg, is recovering.
Police tracked the gang relentlessly for two days. At about 12:05 AM on July 10, operatives caught up with the kidnappers near Jikoko Hills. The suspects opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange. But the police outgunned them, forcing the criminals to abandon the hostages and scatter into the forest.
All four victims were rescued unharmed and reunited with their families. The police are still in hot pursuit of the fleeing gunmen.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Sanusi, vowed to hunt down the perpetrators and bring them to justice. He urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious activity
