The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed has named former Cross River State governorship candidate, Senator Sandy Onor, as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The declaration was made on Tuesday at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, by former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, who chaired the PDP Presidential Primaries Collation Committee.
According to members of the committee, the decision followed consultations and voice votes conducted among party members across various states.
Senator Onor became the party’s sole presidential aspirant after formally declaring his intention to run in the 2027 presidential election and purchasing his expression of interest and nomination forms earlier this month.
Addressing party members during the event, Ortom said the committee had consulted stakeholders across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory before reaching a consensus on the candidate.
He subsequently announced Senator Sandy Onor as the PDP’s consensus flagbearer for the 2027 presidential election.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including National Commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Prof. Rhoda Habor Gumus, monitored the exercise at the party headquarters.
Following the announcement, the PDP leadership presented Senator Onor with the party’s flag and certificate of return as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
