Senator Ede Dafinone has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Delta Central Senatorial Primary Election, securing the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued shortly after the conclusion of the primary election on Monday night and made available to our reporter, Dafinone described the victory as “a defining moment” for both the APC and the people of Delta Central Senatorial District.
He expressed gratitude to party delegates, stakeholders and supporters across the eight local government areas for the overwhelming support that produced what he called a “resounding victory.”
The senator praised the conduct of the primaries, noting that the exercise was transparent, peaceful, free and fair despite Delta Central’s reputation as a highly competitive political environment.
According to him, the smooth conduct of the election demonstrated that democracy remains strong within the APC, adding that the outcome reflected the genuine will of party faithful across the district.
Dafinone also commended the Executive Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, for promoting unity and stability within the APC in Delta State. He said the governor’s commitment to a peaceful process helped strengthen confidence among party members.
The senator further extended appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC National Working Committee and members of the National Assembly Primary Committee for ensuring a level playing field during the exercise.
He acknowledged the contributions of party elders, women, youths and stakeholders, describing the victory as one belonging to all loyal APC members committed to the future of Delta Central.
Dafinone specifically praised the professionalism of the APC National Assembly Primary Committee, including Collation Officer Hon. Dr. Okiemute E. Benjamin, committee secretary Barr. Nusa Amagbor and member Abimbola Samuel Dart, for ensuring transparency throughout the process.
According to the official figures announced at the end of the exercise, Dafinone secured 116,252 votes across the eight local government areas of Delta Central Senatorial District.
Reacting to the outcome, the senator pledged to serve with integrity, courage and dedication, while promising to pursue policies that would promote development, empowerment, security and effective representation for the people of Delta Central.
In a notable move toward reconciliation, Dafinone extended what he described as a “hand of fellowship” to former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege and his supporters, urging all factions within the APC to unite ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Elections and primaries may come with competition, but at the end of the day, we remain members of one political family with a shared vision for the advancement of Delta State and Nigeria,” he stated.
Dafinone assured party members and supporters that he would not betray the confidence reposed in him, while calling for unity, peace and collective determination as the APC prepares for future electoral contests in Delta State.
