Governor warns against complacency as new commissioners, DESOPADEC, and Judicial Service Commission members take oath in Asaba

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday swore in two new commissioners, a member of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Governing Board, and three members of the Delta State Judicial Service Commission, urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them through dedicated and transparent service.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, the governor emphasized that the appointments were anchored on competence, fairness, and integrity, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to placing qualified individuals at the helm of its development agenda.

The newly inaugurated commissioners are Mr Brave Enodeh and Mr Ogodo Moses, while Mr Cosmas Igbenije was sworn in as a member of the DESOPADEC Governing Board. Also inaugurated as members of the Delta State Judicial Service Commission were Joseph Ojobo (SAN), Chief James Obeuwou, and Fun-Ebi Edonyabo.

Addressing the two new commissioners, Oborevwori described them as dynamic, resourceful, and capable individuals, urging them to see their appointments as a call to serve the people and contribute meaningfully to the state’s growth.

“I found you to be dynamic, resourceful and capable individuals. You are expected to serve with integrity, diligence and accountability in the discharge of your duties,” the governor stated.

He directed them to work closely with other members of the State Executive Council in implementing the administration’s MORE Agenda, a policy framework focused on Meaningful development, Opportunities for all, Realistic reforms, and Enhanced peace and security.

DESOPADEC Appointment: Completing a Vital Tenure

On the DESOPADEC appointment, Oborevwori explained that Igbenije was appointed to complete the tenure of the former board member representing his ethnic nationality. He expressed confidence in the new appointee’s ability to effectively represent his people and contribute to the commission’s mandate of delivering infrastructure and development projects in oil-producing communities.

The governor further noted that the tenure of the current DESOPADEC board had earlier been extended by one year to enable the completion of ongoing projects and strengthen service delivery across benefiting communities.

He urged the board to sustain its efforts in providing roads, schools, health centres, markets, and other essential infrastructure in oil-producing areas.

Judicial Service Commission: Guardians of Judiciary’s Integrity

Addressing the newly inaugurated members of the Judicial Service Commission, Oborevwori reminded them of the critical role the commission plays in the appointment, promotion, and discipline of judicial officers in the state.

“The responsibilities before you require honesty, fairness and transparency. These appointments were based on competence, fairness and integrity, and I expect you to discharge your duties with the fear of God,” the governor said.

He emphasized that members of the commission must be people of unquestionable integrity to preserve the independence and credibility of the judiciary.

Administration’s Commitment to Inclusive Governance

The governor assured the appointees of his administration’s continued support, expressing confidence that they would contribute to strengthening governance and public institutions in Delta State.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, stating that qualified Deltans would continue to be given opportunities to serve the state regardless of their background.
