Presidential candidates unite in grief, hailing late cleric as Nigeria’s moral compass
In a rare moment of political unity, presidential candidates Peter Obi and Adewole Adebayo have set aside partisan differences to mourn the passing of Rev. Dr. William Okoye, the revered founder of All Christians Fellowship Mission and former chaplain at Nigeria’s Presidential Villa.
Obi, the Labour Party standard-bearer, described the fallen clergyman as “an elder brother” whose ministry “inspired countless people to live lives of purpose and righteousness.”
“Rev. Okoye belonged to that rare generation of spiritual leaders who understood that the true measure of ministry is not in the size of its platforms but in the depth of its impact on humanity,” Obi wrote on X Thursday.
The former Anambra governor urged Nigerians to celebrate the preacher’s legacy, declaring: “Though his earthly journey has come to an end, the values he embodied and the lives he transformed will continue to speak for generations.”
Echoing the sentiment, SDP presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo called Okoye “one of Nigeria’s distinguished Christian fathers” whose ministry “transcended denominational boundaries.”
“Nigeria has lost a voice of truth, peace, justice, and national reconciliation,” Adebayo lamented, praising the cleric’s commitment to “raising leaders of character.”
Both candidates prayed for strength for Okoye’s family, the All Christians Fellowship Mission, and Christians nationwide as they navigate this profound loss.
