What was expected to be a peaceful voting exercise at the polling unit of Osun State Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, turned chaotic on Saturday as a visit by a rival candidate ignited a fierce altercation.
The incident unfolded when the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, Benjamin Kayode Adereti, made an unexpected appearance at Adewusi’s polling unit. Adereti, who had earlier cast his vote at his designated polling station—WaaSin Polling Unit 11, Ilaare Ward 3—reportedly proceeded to the deputy governor’s location, sparking immediate tension.
According to eyewitnesses, Adereti’s arrival was met with open resistance from supporters of Adewusi, who were already present at the unit. The atmosphere quickly soured as verbal exchanges escalated into a heated confrontation, momentarily disrupting the otherwise calm voting process.
As of the time of this report, the motive behind Adereti’s visit remains unclear. However, his presence appeared to have rattled the deputy governor’s loyalists, leading to the explosive clash that briefly threw the polling unit into disarray.
Despite the disruption, security operatives at the scene were able to restore order, allowing voting to continue.
