The governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has generated widespread reactions on social media following claims made by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola after emerging as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

According to the senator, popularly known as Yayi, he secured victory in the direct primary election with a total of 304,055 votes, while his only opponent allegedly scored zero votes.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page shortly after the exercise, Adeola wrote: “To the Glory of God, I emerged as the Governorship Candidate of APC for the Ogun 2027 election after a direct primary vote of 304,055 against my opponent zero score.”
The declaration has since stirred debate among party supporters, political observers, and social media users, many of whom questioned how an opposing candidate could fail to secure even a single vote in a direct primary involving party members across the state.
Critics argued that the result suggests that not even the opponent voted for himself, while some commenters humorously pointed out that the figures imply the candidate may have “voted against himself.”
Others, however, defended the outcome, insisting that the primary reflected the overwhelming popularity and political structure of Senator Adeola within the APC in Ogun State.
Political analysts say the controversy surrounding the “zero vote” outcome may continue to fuel conversations about internal democracy and transparency in party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Senator Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West in the National Assembly, has remained a dominant figure in Ogun politics and is widely considered one of the strongest contenders in the race to succeed the current administration.
