Party confirms nomination portal upload, describes move as major milestone toward credible alternative
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially submitted the names and particulars of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.
Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s national publicity secretary, announced the development in a statement posted on X Tuesday night.
“We are pleased to announce that we have successfully uploaded the names and particulars of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar (GCON), and our vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi (CON), to the nomination portal of INEC,” the statement reads.
Abdullahi described the submission as another milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general election, reflecting the ADC’s commitment to offering Nigerians “a credible alternative built on competence, unity, and national renewal.”
Primary Election Victory
On May 27, Atiku secured the ADC’s presidential ticket, polling 1,846,370 votes to defeat Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, former managing director of FSB International Bank, and Amaechi, former governor of Rivers State. Amaechi garnered 504,117 votes while Hayatu-Deen received 177,120 votes.
Following his victory, Atiku called on both contenders to “close ranks and join me in the fight to rescue Nigeria’s democracy,” emphasizing that there were no winners or vanquished in the contest.
Running Mate Selection
The ADC announced Amaechi as Atiku’s running mate on June 16. Abdullahi stated that the National Working Committee selected Amaechi after “extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women stakeholders, and representatives of all geopolitical zones.”
The party described Amaechi as one of Nigeria’s “most experienced and respected political leaders” who enjoys “widespread support from party members across the federation.”
