Former Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, was reportedly arrested on Wednesday at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu while preparing to board a chartered flight to Abuja.
According to reports by Premium Times, security operatives apprehended the former minister at the airport before his departure.
Sources familiar with the development said he is expected to be transferred to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for interrogation.
The reported arrest is linked to an ongoing investigation into allegations that Nnaji forged his academic certificates.
The ICPC has reportedly been tracking the former minister since his resignation from office last year after the allegations surfaced.
The case has attracted public attention because it involves questions about the authenticity of the academic qualifications of a former member of the Federal Executive Council.
Certificate forgery is a criminal offence under Nigerian law and, if proven, could attract severe legal consequences, including prosecution.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Nnaji nor the ICPC had issued an official statement regarding the reported arrest or the status of the investigation.
Authorities are expected to provide further details after the former minister’s interrogation.
The development adds to the growing list of high-profile anti-corruption investigations involving former public officials, as Nigerian anti-graft agencies continue efforts to strengthen accountability and integrity in public service.
