In a stunning show of zero-tolerance for crime, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has thrown down the gauntlet to security agencies: arrest anyone involved in criminal activity even if it’s his own son.
The governor made this bold declaration on Friday during a high-stakes meeting with Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, at the Government House in Osogbo. His remarks came after the IGP raised concerns that some wanted suspects were allegedly being harbored within the Government House premises a claim Adeleke forcefully denied.
“If you see any of my people that committed a crime, arrest them. If it is my son who committed a crime, arrest him, let him learn his lesson,” Adeleke stated firmly in the presence of the nation’s top police chief.
While welcoming the IGP’s pledge to crack down on indiscipline within the Force, the governor did not hold back his frustration with what he described as “games” played by some officers. He cited the recent transfer of a police officer who had arrested a suspect in the murder of a 14-year-old boy in Ilobu an action he viewed as punitive and counterproductive.
“The police officer did a good job under your directive and arrested the killer. Why transfer him?” Adeleke queried, urging the IGP to ensure professionalism and impartiality.
He reaffirmed his commitment to cooperating with the police, but with a clear warning: “We are not fighting the police, but you have to do right.”
