Police secure landmark conviction as machine gun, 1,893 rounds of ammunition seized from traffickers
In a major blow to terrorist supply chains, the Nigeria Police Force has put two arms traffickers behind bars for over two decades after they were caught red-handed hauling a deadly arsenal through Katsina State.
Abdussalam Muhammad and Aminu Mamman were arrested in September 2025 along the Ingawa–Karkarku Road with a cache that would make any militia envious: one PKT machine gun, 230 rounds of PKT ammunition, and a staggering 1,663 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 bullets all allegedly destined for criminal elements.
The Federal High Court in Katsina didn’t mince words. In Charge No. FHC/KT/84C/2025, the convicts faced a five-count indictment spanning criminal conspiracy, unlawful arms possession, transportation of prohibited firearms, support for terrorists, and acts preparatory to terrorism violations of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and the Firearms Act.
The verdict? Five years on Count One, and a crushing 20 years each on Counts Two through Five.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, confirmed the sentences in a Friday statement, while Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu hailed the prosecution as proof that Nigeria’s security forces are hunting down every link in the terror supply chain.
“This successful prosecution demonstrates our resolve to combat terrorism and arms trafficking,” Disu said. “Anyone involved in acts threatening Nigeria’s national security will be brought to justice.”
The vehicle used to transport the weapons now sits as evidence a stark warning to traffickers that the long arm of the law reaches every backroad and smuggling route.
