Asaba indigenes in the diaspora have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the 14th Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, following the launch of the ₦100 million Asaba Community Security Trust Fund.
The President General of the Asaba National Association (ANA), the umbrella body of Asaba indigenes in the United States of America, Engr. Kennedy Okafor, made this known in an interview with journalists shortly after the launch of the Fund.
Engr. Okafor described the leadership of the Asagba as visionary, impactful, and people-centred, noting that Asaba sons and daughters in the USA were encouraged by the monarch’s development-driven initiatives.
According to him, the transparent and accountable management of community resources under the current traditional leadership has rekindled confidence among indigenes in the diaspora and strengthened their resolve to contribute meaningfully to the development of their homeland.
He emphasized that the welfare of Asaba people remains a top priority for the Asagba, adding that this commitment has inspired renewed interest among indigenes abroad to reconnect and invest in the community.
The ANA President General commended the Asaba Community Security Trust Fund initiative, describing security as a collective responsibility and a critical factor for safeguarding lives, property, and sustainable development.
Engr. Okafor, who donated ₦5 million to the Fund, noted that insecurity had discouraged many Asaba indigenes from visiting home in recent years. He expressed optimism that the Trust Fund would enhance community policing and restore confidence.
He further expressed confidence in the Ogbueshi Philip Nwokolo-led committee, assuring that the Fund would be managed judiciously and transparently. He also called on Asaba sons and daughters in London and other parts of the world to support the initiative through generous donations.
