Rev Fr. Godfrey Mark Chimezie of St Theresa Catholic Church, Umuahia, Abia State, Southeast Nigeria, has been kidnapped.
POLITICS NIGERIA learnt that he was seized along Enyiukwu Road Ohokobe Afaraukwu community, Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The clergy’s abductors were said to have intercepted him after he concluded a morning mass at St Gabriel ,Okpururie, Afaraukwu on Wednesday. They forced him out of his Toyota Corolla into their jeep and sped away.
Chimezie, from Enugu state, was ordained a priest earlier in 2021.
Kidnapping is a major problem in Nigeria in the early 21st century. Kidnapping by bandits and insurgents is among the biggest organised or gang crime in Nigeria and is a national security challenge.
