A Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, the Delta State Capital has sentenced one Ufor Papa Samuel to 12 years imprisonment without option of fine for the offence of human trafficking.

The Federal High Court presided over by Honourable Justice T.B. Adegoke found the 38 years old defendant guilty of the three count charge preferred against him by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and he was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment on count 1 of the charge and 7 years imprisonment on count 2 without option of fine.

The court, however, ruled that the sentences are to run concurrently and to start counting from the date he was arrested and remanded in custody.

Ufor Samuel who was arraigned before the Federal High Court, Benin Division on the 27th day of February 2018 and later transferred to Asaba upon the creation of the Asaba Division of the Federal High Court, was arrested at the Seme border by Immigration Officers while attempting to traffic his victim, a 20 year old Cynthia Uden from Agbor, Delta State to Mali for prostitution.

The convict had deceived his unsuspecting victim that she was being taken to Mali to be engaged as a Sales girl with an annual salary of one million cefas.
