Ebonyi politician questions lawmakers’ performance ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 vote

A Labour Party chieftain has called on voters in Nigeria’s Ebonyi State to carefully assess the performance of their representatives in the National Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections, arguing that the state deserves stronger and more effective leadership at the federal level.

Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, the Labour Party’s House of Representatives candidate for the Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency in the 2023 elections, said quality representation is essential for promoting democratic governance, accountability and development.

Speaking through a series of posts published on his official social media platforms, Ezeh maintained that voters should evaluate the achievements of senators and members of the House of Representatives before deciding whether they deserve another term in office.
According to him, elected lawmakers must go beyond occupying political offices by ensuring effective oversight of the executive arm of government, defending the interests of citizens and supporting policies that strengthen democracy.

The Labour Party leader criticised the National Assembly’s handling of the 2026 Electoral Act, arguing that the performance of many lawmakers has fallen short of public expectations. He also questioned whether returning the current legislators would serve the country’s democratic interests, particularly if future constitutional amendments affecting presidential tenure were introduced.

Ezeh urged citizens not to allow party loyalty or political influence to determine their votes, insisting that competence, integrity and proven performance should remain the key factors in choosing public officials.

He further revealed that the Labour Party in Ebonyi North is adopting a broader and more inclusive political strategy aimed at bringing together different groups ahead of the 2027 elections. According to him, the initiative is designed to produce credible leaders capable of providing stronger representation for the people.

The politician added that his proposed “Rainbow Coalition” would form part of the party’s preparations for the next general election and promised that more details would be unveiled in the coming months.

As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections, Ezeh said the country’s democracy can only be strengthened if voters hold elected officials accountable and support leaders with the character, capacity and commitment to deliver meaningful representation.
