The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended two senior officials and the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President over allegations of illegally extorting N1,000 from 100-level students, exposing a troubling racket within the institution’s administration.
In a statement on Tuesday, Registrar Mufutau Ibrahim confirmed that the affected officials are:
· Olanrewaju Ogunjobi – Director, Directorate of Educational Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship
· Banji Rildwan Olaleye – Deputy Dean, Student Affairs and Support Services
· James Iyanuoluwa Adio – SUG President
According to a petition, Ogunjobi allegedly authorised the collection of N1,000 from each fresher for purported practical sessions without any approval from the university’s senate or management, and in violation of the institution’s policy requiring all payments to go through the bursary.
Olaleye was implicated for his role in the collection process despite his senior position in student affairs.
More damning, Adio was accused of being indirectly involved in the handling of the funds allegedly participating in the sharing of an initial sum and later requesting a refund, which resulted in N700,000 being transferred into his personal bank account.
Ibrahim stated that a preliminary fact-finding committee invited all accused persons to respond to the allegations before the suspensions were effected.
“The university will not tolerate the extortion of students, abuse of office, financial impropriety, or corruption in any form,” he declared, adding that the suspension is part of ongoing efforts to uphold institutional integrity while investigations continue.
The development has sparked outrage among students and parents, with many calling for thorough prosecution if the allegations are proven.
