Martins Ezewinwe, the chief executive officer of Ezewinwe Foundation, while donating food items to flood victims in Kwale, Ndukwa West local government area of Delta state has advised federal government to dredge river Niger as a measure to avoid subsequent flood disasters in Nigeria.
Ezewinwe believes that dredging the river will prevent the flood from overflowing the river bank, therefore stopping it from destroying lands, homes and properties of inhabitants of the river Niger area.
He urged the federal government to be proactive in fighting natural disasters by putting safety checks and other measures in place, says if federal government was proactive in handling critical situations, many preventable disasters and deaths would have been avoided.
Ezewinwe commended Delta state government for providing relief materials for the flood victims through various agencies to cushion the effects of the flood.
He pledged to monitor activities in the IDP camp to see where he could be of help.
Ezewinwe urged the camp commandant to make certain that the donated food items are effectively used for the benefits of the people.
