Awka the capital city of Anambra state has since few years back lost its tranquility as cult boys are on rampage, causing tension and anxiety in the lives of the residents.
Some residents who spoke to Emerald News complained that cult activities in Awka and its environs were something to be worried about as people now usually see dead bodies believed to be attacked by some of these misguided youths.
Mrs. Philomena Nwosu told this meduim that she was tired of seeing gory sights of dead boys in the street of Awka.
Mrs. Nwosu said that she was around ‘Eke’ Awka market when two rival cult groups were attacking each which led to everybody to begin to run helter skelter.
She added that on her way back home , at Nodu area of Awka, she saw a fresh corpse of a fair complexion and handsome young looking boy of about twenty (20) years lying on the ground.
Mrs. Nwosu noted that she later learnt that the dead boy was attacked by a cult group as there were release of gun shots earlier yesterday at that area.
According to her, there is no day people would not be running for their dear lives in Awka as a result of the cult groups ripples.
Also, Miss. Sandra Okongwu told Emerald News that the activities of cult groups in Awka has not been able to be controlled by the state government nor the traditional ruler of Awka.
Miss Okongwu recalled that sometime last year, the indigenes of Awka got tired of the serial killings in the town and brought a shrine in the town and used the shrine to cast a spell to anyone that will engage in killing people but the shrine was said not to be effective as the killing continued.
She added that the group took a break after they heard about the shrine, but later began their indiscriminate killings.
Emerald News gathered that the shrine was not able to stop the cult groups from ravaging the town.
Others who spoke to this meduim cried out to Willie Obiano led government to strategize with the security outfits in town to curb the excess of these cult groups.
They said that the residents were always on the run, adding that they are tired of seeing these boys using weapons to hit on their fellow boys.
