Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate former Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.), over the alleged mismanagement of ₦283.3 billion within six months.
Adeyanju, in a statement on Wednesday, alleged that despite the huge funds received during Ibas’s tenure, there was little or nothing to show for it.
According to him, apart from what he described as a “cosmetic renovation” of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex, no meaningful projects were executed.
He further accused the former administrator of failing to publish financial accounts or ensure transparency in the management of state resources.
“This is a clear case that demands urgent investigation and accountability as the people of Rivers State deserve to know how their money was spent,” Adeyanju said.
The petition, now before the ICPC, is expected to trigger a formal investigation into the expenditure under Ibas’s administration.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Vice Admiral Ibas nor his representatives had issued a response to the allegations.
