It was a weekend of remembrance, reverence, and celebration in Idumuje-Unor, Delta State, as the Chiazor and Nwoko families came together to bid a final farewell to their beloved matriarch, the late Princess Mrs. Catherine Okwuobi Chiazor (née Nwoko).

The serene community of Idumuje-Unor in Aniocha North Local Government Area was filled with mourners from across Nigeria and the diaspora who gathered to honor the life of the late Princess, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 27, 2025, in Arizona, USA, at the age of 92.

Princess Catherine Chiazor was the daughter of the late HRM Obi Nkeze Nwoko II, former Obi of Idumuje-Ugboko, and was married to the late Chief Anthony Chiazor. Her life of dignity, service, and grace was reflected in the outpouring of tributes and the overwhelming show of love at her final rites.

Among the dignitaries present was Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, and nephew of the deceased.

The funeral mass, held at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Idumuje-Unor, was a solemn occasion, marked by heartfelt prayers and tributes. Her interment took place in her ancestral home of Idumuje-Ugboko.

In an emotional tribute, her eldest son, Mr. Greg Sunny Chiazor, a prominent business magnate, described his mother as a devout Catholic who lived a Christ-like life and instilled strong moral values in her family. “She taught us the value of integrity, compassion, and the sacred role of motherhood. Her legacy will continue to guide us,” he said.

Senator Ned Nwoko, in his tribute, recalled his aunt as a quiet force of strength and wisdom. “She was not just my mother’s sister, but a true matriarch—steady, graceful, and nurturing. She embodied the quiet resilience and dignity of a generation of women who held families and communities together, not for applause, but out of love.”

Princess Catherine Chiazor was widely known for her kindness, warmth, and deep care for others. She is survived by her five children—Mr. Greg Sunny Chiazor, Mrs. Pat Okwumabua, Chief (Mrs.) Obiageli Inuwa, Mrs. Nkechi Stella Adesina, and Mr. Francis Onweazu Chiazor—as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and loved ones.

Her memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew her, as a beacon of love, faith, and enduring family values.
