Residents at OOUTH issue ultimatum, slap ₦50,000 fine on colleagues who defy directive
The Association of Resident Doctors at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, Ogun State, has commenced a 10-day warning strike over the state government’s failure to pay revised professional and specialist allowances, among other grievances.
At an emergency general meeting on Monday, the doctors unanimously resolved to withdraw services after a 14-day ultimatum expired without any Memorandum of Understanding signed or firm commitment from authorities regarding payment of outstanding arrears.
Key Demands:
· Immediate payment of revised Professional and Specialist Allowances, reflected in July 2026 salaries
· Release of 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF)
· Overhaul of hospital security amid rising theft and burglary
· Renovation of dilapidated call rooms and accommodation
· Improved quality and quantity of call meals
The doctors also cited acute manpower shortages, excessive workloads, and burnout as critical concerns.
Defiance Penalty: Any member found disobeying the strike directive will face a ₦50,000 fine.
The association will convene another emergency meeting after 10 days to review developments and determine next steps.
