The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has appointed CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force, replacing DCP Anthony Okon Placid who held the position for barely three months.
Placid, the outgoing FPRO, announced his successor in a statement on Friday, describing Iniedu as a seasoned officer with extensive experience in public communication, operational policing, intelligence management, institutional accountability, and administration.
Profile of New FPRO
Iniedu, a native of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo.
The statement highlighted his professional training portfolio, which includes:
· Investigative interviewing
· Crime scene management
· Human rights-based policing
· Strategic communication
· Intelligence analysis
Career Highlights
Before his new appointment, Iniedu served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit at Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he coordinated public complaint management and championed initiatives to strengthen transparency, accountability, and public trust in the force.
He previously served as Public Relations Officer of the Police College of Information Technology, Kobape, Ogun State, among several operational and administrative appointments across the country.

· Area Crime Officer, Umuahia Area Command, Abia State
· Staff Officer, IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters
· Second-in-Command, 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Kubwa

IG’s Confidence in New Appointee
The Inspector-General expressed confidence in Iniedu’s capacity to lead the Force Public Relations Department, noting that his experience would enhance the force’s strategic communication efforts and strengthen public engagement in support of ongoing policing reforms.
Iniedu takes over from Placid, who was appointed FPRO on March 8, 2026, succeeding Benjamin Hundeyin. The brief tenure marks another rapid change in the police force’s public communication leadership.
