Troops storm Kangarwa enclave after sustained air and ground offensive, captives now receiving medical care
The Joint Task Force in the North East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), has rescued 47 persons predominantly women and children from ISWAP captivity in Kangarwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to a statement by Captain Mohammed Musa, Acting Military Information Officer of the Theatre Command, the rescue operation was carried out on Saturday, June 20, 2026, during a coordinated military offensive that forced the terrorists to flee in disarray.
“The successful rescue operation was made possible through sustained aggressive pressure and relentless offensive operations conducted by OPHK troops against ISWAP enclaves in the Lake Chad region.
The unrelenting ground and air offensives forced the terrorists to abandon their positions in confusion, enabling the victims to escape from prolonged captivity.”
The rescued hostages are currently receiving medical attention and humanitarian support at a secure location, with relevant agencies working to facilitate their reintegration into society.
The Theatre Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations, dismantling remaining ISWAP networks, and restoring peace across the North East.
