The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Agwu Ukpo, who was captured in a viral video physically assaulting a woman in Aba.
According to the police, the suspect, a native of Akanu Ohafia, allegedly attacked the victim, Amarachi Chinyere, following a disagreement over a pot of soup.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed that operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) apprehended the suspect through intelligence-led operations.
She stated that the matter is currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and assured residents that the suspect would be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.
The command condemned the incident, describing it as a cruel and unacceptable act of domestic violence. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting residents and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.
The police also urged members of the public to avoid all forms of violence, stressing that anyone found engaging in criminal acts would face the full weight of the law.
