The Mayor of Urhoboland, Eshanekpe Israel a.k.a Akpodoro, has congratulated the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Major General Oluwafemi Olatubosun Oluyede who was yesterday promoted to a new rank of a Lieutenant General by the Commander-In-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The excited Mayor expressed his congratulations to the top military brass in a statement he issued in Ughelli, the headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, on Wednesday.

Mayor Akpodoro

He noted that Lt. General Oluyede’s promotion is a divine call to serve his fatherland saying the hope of Nigerians is high with the promotion and elevation of a man who is seeing as a model in service delivery, moral probity, professional prowess and outstanding track records.

The newly promoted Acting Chief of Army Staff, Mayor Akpodoro said, is a dedicated statesman with a nationalistic approach in his career with a blend of astuteness and top-notch expertise capable of making a huge difference in the war against insurgency, banditry and sundry crimes in the country.

His appointment and elevation, Akpodoro noted, marks an end to security lapses and reign of terror in the country saying the president repose so much confidence in the capacity and professional well-being of the Nigerian Army.

He called on the Army boss to consider the welfare and the well-being of the Nigerian soldiers, file the rough edges – if any, and position the institution for efficiency, productivity, diligence and optimal performance to defend “our national integrity and sovereignty, and to foster peace and unity in a new egalitarian and workable nation where no man is oppressed.”

The Mayor noted that the stability of the nation rests on the shoulders of the Nigerian military particularly the army and with the acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Oluyode, in the saddle, there’s hope that the nation will heave a sigh of relief from insurgency and banditry and also phase out the remnants of seccessionists in some parts of the country and keep the nation at peace.

Nigerians, Akpodoro said, are united in the drive of President Tinubu to deliver a nation where hopes of the citizens are genuinely renewed to usher sustainable national growth and development saying, it is only a peaceful nation that can be hopeful.

He commended the President for choosing Lt. Oluyode from among his peers who he said are peopled by eminently qualified personnel who can hold their own anywhere in the world.

He called on the Nigerian Army to support the Acting army Chief as he expressed confidence that the appointment of Lt. Oluyode is the best and that the nation shall be better for it.

“I congratulate the newly appointed and elevated Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Oluyode, whose appointment is in furtherance to the hardwork dissipated by his predecessor, General Taoreed Lagbaja of blessed memory.

“Now that providence has brought the responsibility of leading the Nigerian Army upon his shoulders, we call for his best, diligence, professional aptitude, superlatively improved welfare programme for the Nigerian soldiers and an end to insurgency and banditry.

“More than ever before, we ask that the sovereignty and our national dignity must be protected among the comity of nations. We are proud of him and we know that he has the trajectory of performance and loyalty to civil authority. Congratulations to the soldiers’ soldier,” the Mayor stated.
