Nigeria launches diaspora youth drive for 2027

Nigeria’s ruling party support group, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA), is set to expand its political mobilisation beyond the country’s borders with the inauguration of its Diaspora Youth Directorate coordinators in Toronto, Canada, as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.

The inauguration, scheduled for August 10, 2026, will be led by the Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma. The event will also mark the official launch of the organisation’s Diaspora Arise Platform, an initiative aimed at engaging young Nigerians living abroad in national development and civic participation.

According to the organisation, the programme is designed to strengthen connections between Nigeria and its growing diaspora community while encouraging young Nigerians overseas to contribute their skills, experience and ideas to the country’s economic and social development.

Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, Director of Youth of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, said the initiative demonstrates the increasing involvement of Nigerians abroad in supporting the country’s future. He explained that the platform would serve as a strategic avenue for mobilising diaspora youths to participate in leadership development, innovation, entrepreneurship and community engagement.

He added that the programme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which seeks to harness the talents of Nigerians both at home and abroad to drive economic growth and national progress. According to him, young Nigerians living overseas remain an important part of the country’s development because of their achievements across sectors such as technology, healthcare, education, finance, business and public service.
As part of the inauguration, the newly appointed coordinators will receive a range of digital mobilisation tools to help them build and manage networks within their respective communities. These include personalised recruitment codes, QR-enabled registration links, digital campaign toolkits and performance-monitoring dashboards designed to track participation and outreach activities.

The organisation said each coordinator will be expected to recruit at least 50 verified members within the first 30 days after assuming office. The target is intended to accelerate the expansion of the platform while encouraging greater participation among Nigerian youths living across different countries.

Officials said the initiative represents a broader effort to create a global network of Nigerians committed to promoting youth empowerment, national unity, civic responsibility and economic development. They believe the growing influence of Nigerians in the diaspora provides an opportunity to strengthen international partnerships and encourage investments that could benefit communities across the country.

The launch in Canada is expected to attract members of the Nigerian community, youth leaders and supporters of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors from across North America. Organisers say it is one of several activities planned to deepen engagement with Nigerians living overseas ahead of the 2027 elections.

The organisation also appealed to Nigerian youths both within the country and in the diaspora to remain united and continue contributing positively to Nigeria’s development through innovation, leadership and active participation in nation-building.

While the initiative carries a political dimension ahead of the next general election, RHA says its broader objective is to encourage young Nigerians around the world to play a greater role in shaping the country’s future and supporting sustainable national development.
