The Federal Government has prohibited commercial motorcycles and tricycles from plying the newly constructed Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, citing concerns over road deterioration and misuse.
The ban, announced Sunday by Lagos State Federal Controller of Works Olufemi Dare, takes effect this week and extends to all bridges across the state.
Why the Ban?
· The restriction aims to protect the superhighway from damage and premature deterioration
· Indiscriminate truck parking has also been outlawed along the route
· Dumping of refuse on highway corridors is now strictly prohibited
Enforcement Measures
· Signages have already been installed along the highway
· Task force officials will be deployed to strategic locations to ensure compliance
· Offenders will face “strict enforcement measures”
Official Statement
“The restriction applies to the coastal highway and all bridges across Lagos State,” Dare stated, describing the 700-kilometer project as a “world-class infrastructure” that requires proper maintenance and protection.
Public Appeal
The ministry urged all road users to comply with the directives in the interest of public safety, stressing that preserving the facility would enhance its lifespan and maintain its value to Nigerians.
