In a bold pre-election move, Governor Biodun Oyebanji has reappointed the governing councils of all four state-owned tertiary institutions—daring political tradition and shutting down speculation of a lame-duck administration.
His message? “When a system is working, you can’t just retard progress.”
With his first term ending in October, Oyebanji stunned attendees at a Monday meeting in Ado-Ekiti by publicly directing the Secretary to the State Government to exclude the councils from any dissolution plans, singling them out as his proudest appointments.
The retained councils are:
· EKSU – Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti
· BOUESTI – Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science & Technology, Ikere
· Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan
· Ekiti State College of Health Science & Technology, Ijero
Why the retention?
The governor cited:
· Outstanding performance in infrastructure and academics
· Policy continuity and stability
· Protecting developmental momentum from disruption
Pro-Chancellor Patrick Aina, who led BOUESTI’s council delegation, hailed Oyebanji’s re-election as “historic and record-setting,” praising his people-centred policies. The VC, Prof Babatunde Omojola, and top officials—including the SSG, Commissioner for Education, and Chief of Staff were all present.
Bottom line: In a season of political uncertainty, Oyebanji is betting on proven hands not new faces to keep Ekiti’s education sector soaring.
