Panic as gunmen killed, behead, dismembered body of community security chief

Tension has enveloped Omudioga community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State following the killing and beheading of Commander of the area’s Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), Alex Umezuruike by suspected cultists.

The incident, it was gathered, had thrown residents in the area into panic.

It was learnt the gunmen invaded Umezurike’s home and shot him many times.

They were said to have chased him into a nearby bush after discovering that bullets could not penetrate his body.

It was gathered that the bandits later captured and killed him with a knife before cutting off his head.

A source, who spoke in confidence, said the suspected cultists after killing the victim brought the remains back to his compound where they dismembered them and later paraded his head round the community.

The source said: “Some cult boys came into our community last night. They killed the Commander of OSPAC in the community.

“They came to his house shot him severally but it did not enter. He later ran into the bush. They went after him. They caught and killed him. The killing was horrible.

“The returned his body to their compound and cut it to pieces. They cut his head and carried it round the community be before leaving.”

Rivers Police Command confirmed the development, describing it as tragic.

Rivers police spokesman SP Nnamdi Omoni said the dismembered body of the victim had been recovered and deposited in the mortuary.

Omoni said the police restored normalcy in the community while the Commissioner, Eboka Friday, ordered for full investigation into the incident.
