Intervention squad arrives Monday to process new, renewal, and pending applications across multiple UK cities
The Federal Government has taken decisive action to ease the passport crunch gripping Nigerians in the United Kingdom—deploying a dedicated intervention team to fast-track enrolment and processing on British soil.
The team, dispatched by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on the direct orders of Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is set to touch down in the UK on Monday, August 10, 2026. It will work in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission to clear the mounting backlog of pending, new, and renewal applications.
In a statement released Sunday, the NIS confirmed that the team will tour designated cities across the UK to conduct on-the-ground passport enrolment. The intervention is open to three categories of applicants:
· Those with pending applications stuck in the system
· First-time applicants seeking fresh passports
· Holders whose passports have less than one year to expiry and wish to renew
Applicants are required to bring their completed application forms and proof of payment to their designated enrolment session.
However, the NIS issued a strong warning: do not travel to any location until an official schedule is published. The full itinerary—including cities, dates, venues, and enrolment times—will be released shortly via the Nigerian High Commission’s official communication channels.
