Delta governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi weekend said his government would revamp the textile mill that has been abandoned in Asaba, the Delta state capital.

Gbagi spoke when he held a rally with the people of Asaba on Saturday, February 4, 2023. The rally was attended by pastors from different churches and women groups within Asaba metropolis.

He told the people that: “Within one year of being in government, we will take Asaba textile mill and restore it back. We will produce all kinds of clothing materials. We will export the clothing materials to other countries.”

Many people who were working in the textile mill prior to its folding up have been on the streets of Asaba and other places without means of livelihood.

According to Gbagi, he will restore the firm, employ youths and keep it running, a development that will help boost the economy of Asaba and grow the internally generated revenue of the state government.

He also said his government will convert part of Isoko lands to a rice producing area while all schools in Delta state will run free of tuition fees from primary to university level.

He said: “The situation we have in our schools is a very pathetic one. We will revamp our school system. Having done that, I won’t allow our government officials children to school abroad. We will develop our hospitals to the extent that nobody will fly abroad for medical treatment outside this state.

“From June 1, 2023, I will pay every Delta youths N30, 000 monthly. We will computerize every youth in the state and have data base of all of them. Don’t let anybody deceive you with their vain promises. Gbagi has the solution to the challenges in Delta state.

“I will run all the 25 local government areas equally. No one will be treated better than the other. They will be made economically viable. Whatever I say I will do.

“When I takeover and I do what they have done, God will disgrace me. This election is not about me, Kenneth Gbagi, it’s about the welfare of the people of Delta state. We must rescue Delta state and make it the envy of others.

“I have been virtually to all churches in Delta state. It’s now a conviction in my mind that if anything goes wrong with the election, it’s the church to blame. This is because they gave me their word and I believe them.

“When I was minister for one and a half year, I established 13 universities and other schools across Nigeria. For Delta state, I established the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun.

“I could have taken the university to my village. But I built it in Effurun. Let’s not miss this opportunity for a greater Delta. We will give free education to university level for all our children. All that is needed is a man of character and integrity.

“Our decision on Saturday will determine what our state will look like in the next four years. if you allow wrong people to enter government house, it will affect all of us.

“We are tired of suffering in Delta. Since 1999 till date, Delta has not made remarkable progress. What we have now is only Keke and okada. This is not good for us

“The only way to change the system is to vote Gbagi of SDP. For now, all is not well with Delta. Let’s use our PVC to change the narrative in the state.

“SDP will liberate Delta state. Gbagi has track records in the state. He has the capacity to transform the state. He loves Delta and is ready to stamp out corruption from the system.”
