Senator Dafinone Hails INEC Over Restoration of Three Delta Constituencies, Confirms 2027 Elections

Senator Ede Dafinone has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for confirming that elections will be conducted in the restored Abraka (Ethiope East II), Ughelli South II and Isoko North II State Constituencies during the 2027 General Elections.

The lawmaker, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, described the development as a historic victory for democracy, saying it marked the successful conclusion of years of advocacy and judicial efforts to restore representation to the affected constituencies.

In a statement issued after INEC’s stakeholders’ engagement in Asaba, Dafinone said the electoral commission’s confirmation followed judgments of the Federal High Court restoring the three state constituencies.

He noted that the restoration was the result of sustained advocacy by concerned Deltans and the collective efforts of stakeholders committed to correcting what he described as a longstanding injustice.

According to the senator, several representations made by his office in 2025 and 2026 formed part of the coordinated efforts that culminated in the court judgments and INEC’s decision to conduct elections in the constituencies in 2027.

“A key outcome of the meeting was INEC’s confirmation that elections will be conducted in the three restored constituencies during the 2027 General Elections, in line with the judgments of the Federal High Court,” Dafinone stated.

He praised INEC for taking the necessary steps to implement the court’s decisions, describing the commission’s action as an important milestone in strengthening democratic representation in Delta State.

The senator also expressed appreciation to all individuals and groups who contributed to the restoration process, particularly commending the resilience and unwavering pursuit of justice by the people of Ughelli South and Ethiope East.

Dafinone congratulated the people of Abraka (Ethiope East II), Ughelli South II and Isoko North II on what he called a historic achievement, expressing optimism that they would fully participate in the 2027 General Elections through representation in the Delta State House of Assembly.

He said the restoration reinforces the principles of equity, justice and inclusive democratic governance, while assuring the affected communities of his continued commitment to initiatives that advance fair representation and development across Delta State.
