Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has called for urgent and united action to end the recurring killings in Benue State, saying the level of violence has become impossible to ignore.
The award-winning singer made the appeal during a visit to Otukpo-Nobi community in Benue’s Otukpo Local Government Area, where he met with residents affected by a recent attack that claimed several lives and left many others injured. The visit followed the July 12 assault on the community, in which suspected armed herders reportedly killed at least 10 people and displaced many families.
Speaking with grieving residents, 2Baba described the continued bloodshed as heartbreaking, stressing that the suffering of Benue people should concern every Nigerian. He said the crisis has reached a point where silence is no longer an option, urging leaders, communities and citizens to work together to restore peace.
The Benue-born singer noted that while solving the insecurity challenge would not happen overnight, meaningful progress could be achieved through cooperation, commitment and sincere dialogue. According to him, lasting peace will require collective responsibility rather than relying on a single individual or institution.
Sharing moments from the visit on his social media platforms, 2Baba said Benue remains home to millions of people whose lives have been disrupted by violence. He encouraged residents not to lose hope despite the painful experiences, insisting that unity remains the strongest weapon against insecurity.
His intervention comes as concerns continue to grow over repeated attacks on communities across Benue State. In recent months, several villages have recorded deadly incidents linked to armed groups, forcing many residents to flee their homes while others continue to live in fear.
The renewed violence has sparked calls from traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society groups and political figures for stronger security measures and better protection for vulnerable communities. Many have urged the federal and state governments to intensify efforts to prevent further attacks and bring those responsible to justice.
