Christopher Imumolen Drops 2027 Bid, Declares No Aspirant Matches President’s Leadership
In a dramatic political twist, the factional National Chairman of the Accord Party, Christopher Imumolen, has officially withdrawn from the 2027 presidential race and thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu—declaring that no other aspirant possesses the capacity to lead Nigeria.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Friday, Imumolen, who had previously campaigned against Tinubu, made a stunning U-turn, insisting that the President has demonstrated the resilience, courage, and vision required to navigate the country’s complex challenges.
“I Doubt Any Candidate Has the Capacity”
Imumolen did not mince words when evaluating other top contenders:
“We have so many candidates that will be vying for this election, but I sincerely doubt if any of them has the capacity. We have talked about Atiku and Obi, but I don’t think they have the capacity.”
He praised Tinubu for taking difficult but necessary decisions, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy—a move he claimed previous administrations lacked the courage to implement.
“In the last four years, I was one of those campaigning against President Tinubu, but I have seen his leadership style and the progress he has made.”
Subsidy Removal, Youth Appointments, and Economic Recovery
Imumolen commended the administration for creating opportunities for young Nigerians through key appointments, and expressed confidence that the economy would recover despite current hardships.
“President Tinubu has never denied that there are challenges. There is no way a country with Nigeria’s peculiar circumstances would not face difficulties.”
He also warned Nigerians against “unrealistic promises” by some political actors, arguing that complex issues like insecurity cannot be resolved within a few months.
“No Hidden Agenda—This Is About National Interest”
Explaining his decision to step down, Imumolen insisted it was driven by patriotism, not personal ambition:
“There is no hidden agenda to this other than supporting a good cause and building a Nigeria that will better ourselves and our children.”
He added:
“At this critical stage of our national development, continuity in government, policy consistency, political stability and sustained reform are essential for attracting investment, creating jobs, strengthening institutions and building a prosperous nation.”
