Ahead of the governorship election billed for Saturday, September 19, 2020, soldiers have already taken over parts of Auchi, the third largest town in Edo state.
There are three major towns in the state. Beside Benin the state capital, Ekpoma and Auchi are the second and third largest towns in Edo state. Auchi is also the major town in Edo North.
It is sharing boundary between Jattu which houses Iyamho, the country of Adams Oshiomhole, the arrowhead of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It is also close to the country home of Philip Shaibu and Adam Ganiyu, the deputy governorship candidates of PDP and APC guber candidates respectively.
As at 7.30pm when Emerald News who is in Auchi to monitor the election went the election went to town was almost getting dead, coupled with the failure of power, shop owners, boutique dealers had already shutdown.
Soldiers were seen giving commands to motorists and other road users, already instilling fear in the minds of the residents of Auchi, the headquarters of Etsako west local government area of Edo state.
