National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has intercepted drugged candies coming in from the United Kingdom and arrested the importer of the four kilogrammes drugged candies, a twenty two-year-old Youth Corps member, Arnold Maniru, in Abuja.
The NDLEA operatives also intercepted cookies laced with drugs going to United Arab Emirate in Lagos
The youth corps member serving with a government agency in Abuja was arrested yesterday, following the interception of a consignment at the warehouse of a transport company and a controlled delivery of the parcel, which contains the candies laced with Arizona, a strong variant of cannabis and some liquid, was subsequently carried out.
In the same vein, operatives attached to courier companies in Lagos have intercepted one point two kilogrammes of cannabis concealed inside locally made cookies going to Dubai, UAE and nine hundred and twenty grammes of cocaine hidden inside synthetic hair heading to Saudi Arabia.
Another one point zero eight kilogrammes of cannabis concealed in spray cans going to Pakistan and six hundred and twenty five grammes of methamphetamine hidden in clothing heading to Australia were also seized.
Across the states, operatives also intensified arrests of traffickers and seizures of illicit drugs.
A total of three hundred and eighty four point seven kilogrammes of assorted narcotics being transported to Abuja for sale were intercepted and seized at patrol points in Lokoja and Kogi states within the week.
A statement signed by the Director, Media and Advocacy NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Femi Babafemi said a truck comining in from Onitsha and driven by a fifty-year-old Danlami Dodo, was intercepted at a patrol point in Lokoja and it contained psychoactive substances including one thousand, nine hundred and seventy five bottles of Cough Syrup with Codeine weighing two hundred and eighty two kilogrammes; one hundred and ninety nine packets of Exol-5 tablets weighing seventy five point four kilogrammes; two hundred and fifty packets of Diazepam tablets weighing fifteen point four kg; Cannabis Sativa weighing five point nine kilogrammes; and one packet of Ketamine injection, all weighing three hundred and seventy eight point seven kilogrammes kilograms packed in sacks and cartons.
The statement also revealed that a Toyota Hiace bus coming from Ojota, Lagos to Abuja was stopped and searched at the Lokoja patrol point, where six kilogrammes of Arizona was found sealed in cartons and suffed in a white sack.
It stated that in Rivers state, one Obey James was arrested during a raid with four point two grammes of heroin; one point nine grammes of cocaine and five point four grammes of methamphetamine while in Niger state, two suspects; Eze John and Michael Ifediegwu were arrested along Zungeru-Tegina road with eighteen kilogrammes of Exol 5; two kilogrammes of Tramadol and one thousand ampoules of pentazocine injection, all going to Kontagora in the state.
The statement further showed that in Kano, a drug dealer, Chiduzie Ibegbunam, was arrested with sixteen point eight grammes of cocaine and zero point six grammes of heroin while one hundred and fifty eight thousand naira monetary exhibit was recovered from him when his joint was raided.
In Nasarawa state, twenty two suspects were arrested and forty three point nine kilogrammes of illicit drugs were seized when operatives stormed notorious drug joints in Gadabuke forest, Toto LGA and Down base/timber shed both in Nasarawa LGA, dismantled and set ablaze their makeshift homes.
In Borno state, Caleb Okezuonu was arrested with three hundred and fifty two bottles of Codeine Syrup and eight hundred and seventy six tablets of Rohypnol during a raid.
Incidentally, Caleb is on court bail, for two earlier charges filed against him by the state command of the NDLEA thereby, making the latest arrest his third for drug related offences.
During the raid, eleven point five grammes of Tramadol and others were recovered.
