Gunmen have killed the District Head of Gwande, Saf Samuel Alaket, in a brutal ambush along the Sha District axis near the Daffo community in Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The monarch was returning home around 7:30 pm on Tuesday after attending a traditional council meeting in Bokkos and visiting the popular Tuesday market in Daffo when attackers struck near the boundary between Sha District and Daffo.
Residents say the assailants opened fire on his vehicle, leaving the traditional ruler with severe injuries. He was rushed to a nearby clinic for emergency treatment, but medical personnel could not save him.
Community member Mr. Aten Pukat confirmed the death, calling it a “painful loss” to Gwande and the entire Bokkos area.
He noted that Alaket was widely respected for his peace-building efforts and community development, and that his killing has thrown the Bokkos Traditional Council into deep mourning.
Condolences have since poured in from traditional institutions and sympathisers.
Efforts to reach Plateau State Police spokesman SP Alfred Alabo for comment were unsuccessful.
