President Bola Tinubu has officially welcomed Britain’s new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, to office and he’s wasting no time in pushing for stronger Nigeria-UK ties.
In a statement issued Tuesday by Foreign Affairs spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, Tinubu hailed the UK’s “peaceful, orderly and seamless” leadership transition, praising the nation’s democratic strength.
But the real message? Partnership, collaboration, and more partnership.
The President recalled his productive March 2026 meeting with former PM Keir Starmer during his official UK visit and voiced confidence that Burnham will build on that momentum.
“I look forward to exploring vistas of partnership, collaboration and cooperation with the United Kingdom under the new Prime Minister,” Tinubu said.
He also signaled readiness to engage Burnham early both bilaterally and through Commonwealth platforms—to deepen ties that benefit both nations.
Tinubu assured the new British leader of Nigeria’s full commitment to working together on shared global challenges, while wishing him a successful tenure.
